F1 Schumacher shows moments of 'consciousness' (ANSA) - Rome, April 4 - Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula One world champion, has shown "moments of consciousness", his spokesperson Sabine Kehm said Friday, renewing hopes for recovery after his months in a coma.

In a statement to the media, Kehm said that Schumacher, 45, was "making progress" and that his medical team and supporters remain "confident".

The German native suffered serious brain injuries after hitting his head on a rock when skiing off-piste in the exclusive resort of Meribel in the French Alps on December 29.

The Ferrari racing legend has been in a medically induced coma since the end of January, but doctors have been attempting to bring him gradually out of the coma by reducing sedating medication.

"We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we remain confident," Kehm said in the statement.

"We would like to thank you all for the continuous sympathies. At the same time we again ask for understanding that we do not intend to disclose details," she added.

"This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness".
