Chile lifts new tsunami warning after second tremor (ANSA) - Santiago, April 3 - The Chilean National Emergency Service on Thursday lifted a second nationwide tsunami warning issued after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 struck near the northern port city of Iquique. The quake, which struck late Wednesday night, came on the heels of a 8.2 magnitude tremor in the same area on Tuesday evening that killed six people and caused a tidal wave measuring up to 1.8 m in some places. "The tsunami alarm has been withdrawn across the whole country," announced Chilean Interior Minister Rodrigo Penailillo on Thursday.

The first tsunami warning, issued after Tuesday's lethal earthquake, was lifted Wednesday. Chilean President Michelle Bachelet was due to arrive in the earthquake-hit area on Thursday to oversee rescue operations.
