(ANSA) - ROME, APR 16 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani told an ANSA Forum on Tuesday that Italy would be
willing to send troops as part of a peacekeeping mission if an
internationally recognised Palestinian State were to come about.
"The Italian government is strongly committed to peace," Tajani
said.
"We are friends of Israel, but we want to work for peace,
including via the possible sending of troops if a Palestinian
state is to be created, along with forces from other countries".
He also called for Israel to show restrain after last weekend's
attack by Iran.
"I hope there will be no escalation," Tajani said.
"From a military point of view, Israel won, it repelled the
offensive.
"Now we must prevent the conflict from widening, because we
don't just have tension in Gaza but also in the Red Sea".
