Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on
Thursday, as part of ongoing contacts on the situation in the
Middle East, held phone talks with Iranian President Masoud
Pezeshkian, according to a note issued by the premier's office.
Meloni stressed the need to avert an extension of the ongoing
conflict in Gaza, also with reference to Lebanon, urging the
president to avoid a further escalation and to reopen dialogue.
The premier, concluded the note, finally reiterated Italy's
constant commitment to promote peace and stability in the region
through the necessary achievement of a ceasefire in the Gaza
Strip, the release of hostages and the strengthening of
humanitarian aid for the civilian population.
